　　My hometown lies at the foot of a small hill. A small river passes by it. There was a chemical factory to the south of my hometown two years ago. It sent out a great deal of waste gas into the air and poured lots of waste water into the river. The terrible pollution was harmful to us as well as to the environment.

　　Nowadays, the government has done something to protect the environment and prevent it from being polluted. Now, my hometown is becoming more and more beautiful.

　　前兩天，學(xué)校高年級(jí)舉行了英語(yǔ)演講比賽，我作為班上的代表之一，前去觀摩。

　　這次比賽無論是主持還是演講，都是全英文的。東看看，西看看，竟來了不少我認(rèn)識(shí)的人。學(xué)校的幾位老師來做評(píng)委，還有一位外教呢！

　　比賽開始。首先，是兩位主持人一番簡(jiǎn)短的介紹，然后選手開始挨個(gè)兒上臺(tái)。每個(gè)人都有一份課件，上面是演講內(nèi)容，選手要流暢地背出稿子，才能得高分。他們一口流利的英語(yǔ)，聽得我云里霧里。我不由得感嘆道，這就是差距��！不過根據(jù)課件上的英文，我還是認(rèn)出了一些單詞。

　　選手的情況也不同：有的一口英語(yǔ)說得頭頭是道，聽得人一愣一愣的；有的.上了臺(tái)過于緊張，忘了詞，又下來整理整理思緒再上臺(tái)；也有的背得不錯(cuò)，卻出了一點(diǎn)小插曲的……可謂是千姿百態(tài)。

　　選手們講的內(nèi)容各不相同：有的流暢地講了那些經(jīng)典的故事；有的介紹了自己喜歡的動(dòng)物或東西；還有的講了自己從一句話或者一件事中感悟的道理……內(nèi)容各不相同。

　　通過這次比賽，我深切地體會(huì)到了：人外有人，天外有天。我要更加努力地學(xué)習(xí)英語(yǔ)喲！
